MARCY'S FLIGHT NUN TRAVEL BLOG-- COME FLY WITH ME !!

My son Steven is a commercial pilot.  Because of the Pandemic he chose to be on a leave for a while! However, he still has wings!!

When a son surprises me with the invitation, saying "Let's go flying and out for dinner!" what's a Mother to do?  Say YES, of course!

Watching him fuel - I had no idea how many different places on the Maule you put fuel!  (Learned something new!)

Off we flew! ! We had a strong head wind which made for a slightly bumpy ride! But it was nothing uncomfortable.  I was focused on the scenery below!

People who aren't from Michigan often think only of the Detroit Metro area.  In truth Michigan is awash with lakes, farms, woods, and checkered fields!

The Fall colors had not been out enough for an aerial view, but I loved the scenery just the same!

As we flew my son gave me a bit of history about our destination! We were headed to Marshall, Michigan, about a 45 minute flight from Brighton.

Marshall was founded in the late 1830's by Sidney Ketchum. He and the early settlers named the town after "John Marshall", a Chief Justice of the U.S. from Virginia that they admired. Marshall almost became the State Capital, but lost by two votes! However, the town began to thrive in 1844 when the railroad came through.

Brooks Field has it's own bit of history! The first airplane landed here in 1929. The field was officially dedicated in 1931.

After landing my son made a call to his restaurant of choice, Schuler's.  They sent a car to pick us up!  Now, That's customer service!

Schuler's Restaurant and Pub has been in the heart of Marshall and in business for close to 100 years!  At one time this was a Hotel/ Inn.  The decor inside is German and reminded me of the German restaurant in Epcot!

I can attest to the goodness of the white fish hors d'oeuvres and Prime Rib! Delicious!  Tossed salad came with, along with a ice cream Sunday for dessert!

It was time to head for home! The restaurant provided us with a ride back to the airport!

As we took off the sky was turning to a beautiful golden pink.  Night was falling. The air was smooth, not a bump to be had!

As the sky turned to a golden crimson we happily chatted about our adventure and how fortunate we are to do what we Love!

Sunsets viewed from an airplane always take my breath away!  What a fun evening I had!  I had the company of my favorite pilot, another chance to soar with the birds, a bit of history for this history buff, and fantastic food!  Could a gal ask for more?

We landed in Brighton on the grass strip. I must say, I had to look to see we were on the ground!  Smooth landing!! Good job, Steven! (Yes, I take bragging rights!)

And so ended my lovely surprise!  Even during a Pandemic there are fun things to do and places to go- Perhaps on a smaller scale than otherwise, but just as heartwarming, full of laughter, good conversation, and wonderful company!

A shout out to my son Steven!  Thank You for a wonderful evening and a new memory to savor!  You made this 'Ol Former Stew happy!

Thank you, Dear Readers for coming along on my surprise "fly-in dinner"!

Remember!  Life Is Indeed An Adventure, And Surprise Adventures Are The Best!
