Marcy's Travel Blog- Eye's Are On The Goal! I'm Not There Yet!

My mode of transportation ot of Detroit! (A 767-3000

Do you folks remember when I told you that as a former flight attendant, I fly on standby, and get on if there is a seat? Well!---

Detroit Metro did not look promising going to L.A.- infact I DID get on an airplane! I got the next to last seat! Whew!!

Had a good flight! I sat next to a college girl named Michelle, who showed me that we could play "Inflight Trivia Challenge" on the airplane's game system, and compete with who ever else on the airplane was playing! I did alright, though strangely enough, I'd touch the screen and nothing would happen. Michelle would touch the screen and the thing would work! I believe my weird electrochemistry was at play again! Anyway, I figured out that if I touched the screen with a pen- the thing would work! I probable answered about 60% correct- very average- but fun! There was some passenger seated in row 42 or 43 that must have been a brainiac! He kept getting the highest scores! It was a fun way to pass some of the time.

Now we come to my L.A saga! There were two flights to Honolulu today that I stood by for. Nope- I didn't get on either one! In fact- the planes were so full, there were 52 people on standby! (I was #31).

Surprisingly enough, I saw no one loose their cool! The crowd seemed to be quietly resigned to whatever happened! The agents had their hands full, needless to say, but handled everything with efficiency! So I enjoyed watching the children today. One little boy, probably around three years old, kept wanting to "go on walks" with his mom. After about the forth trip up the concourse and back, the mother sank into her chair and said "enough already!" The little guy got kind of quiet, looked at his mom with an earnest face and said- "Mom? Are you getting OLD??!!" We all within earshot had a laugh at that one!

SO- where am I? I'm not in Hawaii! I'm spending the night at the Court Yard Hotel near the L.A. airport! My dear Hawaii friend, Ron Lindsay actually went on price-line for me and found a great deal for my overnight!

It's a lovely hotel! I again was greeted warmly. The staff is delightful! (This means a great deal to any weary traveler!)

Quiet library room in the lobby

The lobby also has an extensive food bar. Nel and Shannon made sure to make me feel welcome and right at home!

Nel  (on the left) with Shannon (on the right)! Sweet gals!

My room is again a king size, clean, pleasant, and inviting.

So, my plan is this: Tomorrow there are three flights to Honolulu. I plan on being at the airport at 7:30 a.m. for the 8:45 a.m. flight- if I get on, great! If not, I'll stand by for the next and the next. At some point, I'll make it to Hawaii!! Meanwhile, I'll enjoy my surroundings here at the Court Yard Hotel, and thank my lucky stars for such lovely accommodations!

As a little side note, in one of my texts to my Hawaii friend, Ron (to let him know what was going on)- I mentioned my "flight angel" who watches after me. Ron decided that my "flight angel" must be in the bar- getting sloshed, and totally useless under the circumstances. Of course, I immediately pictured John Travolta as my "flight angel"- (as he was in the movie "Michael"), burping, dancing, and flirting with the flight attendants instead of helping me out! Ron said that when I finally get to Honolulu, we'll put my "flight angel" on a twelve step program before I go home!--(I love silliness and laughter! It goes a long way to keep tension and negative thoughts at bay!)

Check back in with me tomorrow! I may begin to feel like Tom Hanks in the movie where he lived at an airport for a month or so!!

This is not a disaster. This is a mere inconvenience. Tomorrow's another day, a new day!

If I colse my eyes,  I can almost feel the sea breezes on my face and almost hear the ocean! So I'm not giving up!! It's Hawaii or bust!! Wish me luck!
